Coaldale Borough Council recently appointed System Design Engineering to handle building and zoning inspections.

The Leesport-based firm will also take care of enforcement.

Council President Claire Remington said the borough frequently receives questions from residents about whether or not they need building or zoning permits for their projects.

More times than not, she said, they do.

“If you aren’t sure, you need to come up here,” she said, referring to borough hall.

Office employees have a fee breakdown of permits and fees from System Design and the information is on the borough website.

System Design has also provided new permits, and they’re available from the borough hall.

“They replaced all of our building permit applications and zoning applications,” Beth Martinico, borough secretary, said. “We have electrical and plumbing applications now.”

Council voted to accept the new applications.

“Our old building permit doesn’t even ask for someone’s phone number,” Martinico said.

The new permits will also be available online.

System Design Engineering has been providing code enforcement in the borough over the past several months.
