Cressona Band marks 122 seasons of songs

The Cressona Band, celebrating 122 seasons of musical excellence, will be performing a variety of concerts this year.

The band’s season will kick off on May 29 with a 7 p.m. concert from the Tamaqua Train Station, and will continue with shows through August.

The band performs a variety of show tunes, marches, patriotic, and other songs from the Great American Songbook of Concert Band Repertoire.

The Cressona Band is under the direction of Craig N. Shoener, retired director of bands from Pottsville Area High School, and the associate conductor is John P. Shoener, director of bands from the Shenandoah Valley School District.

The schedule is:

May 29 - Tamaqua Train Station, 7 p.m.

June 15 - Walk In Art Center, Schuylkill Haven, 4:45 p.m.

June 19 - Admiral Boone Park, St. Clair, 6:45 p.m.

June 26 - Green Valley Nursing Center, Gordon Nagle Trail, 7 p.m.

July 10 - Veterans Memorial Park, Port Carbon, 7 p.m.

July 17 - St. Ambrose Church, Schuylkill Haven, 7 p.m.

July 24 - Auburn Memorial Park, 7 p.m.

July 31 - Bubeck Park, Schuylkill Haven, 7 p.m.

Aug. 7 - West Penn Community Park, 7 p.m.

Anyone interested in joining the band should contact John P. Shoener at jshoener13@gmail.com. The band rehearses Mondays from 7-8:30 p.m. at the John F. Potlunas Cressona Band Hall, 12 Wilson St., Cressona.

The band has members from high school students to adults from various walks of life.
