Lehighton may hold special meeting to address vacancies

Lehighton may hold a special meeting later this month to address a pair of vacancies.

Borough council on Monday discussed potential dates for a special meeting. If a special meeting is needed, it would be at 6:30 p.m. April 16.

Borough Manager Dane DeWire informed borough council that the borough received a lot of resumes for both its open secretary and utility billing clerk positions.

If held, the special meeting would be to hire.

Council President Grant Hunsicker suggested that council look to appoint a committee.

Hunsicker, along with council members Ryan Saunders and Steven Hawk said they would serve on the committee.

The borough is accepting applications for a borough secretary and utility billing clerk until 4 p.m. Friday.

Applicants are expected to have one year of work experience in a municipal or professional office environment. Applicants must possess a high school diploma (or the GED equivalent) to apply.

The salary for the position is $45,000 to $55,000 per year ($21.63 to $26.44 per hour), based on qualifications and experience.

The borough utility billing clerk is a full-time in-office position which provides reception duties and clerical support to residents.

The advertised salary for the position is $22.73 per hour ($47,278 per year).
