The status of Lehighton’s Sewer Authority has again come into question.
Councilwoman Autumn Abelovsky revisited the matter at last week’s borough council meeting.
“I just think there’s a lot of questions for the sewer authority,” Abelovsky said.
In November, council discussed dissolving the authority.
Borough Manager Dane DeWire said then it was believed that a PennVest loan was paid in full.
It was said the sewer authority would have to be dissolved through an ordinance.
DeWire said at that time that officials said that they were in agreement that the quorum that met felt that it was not necessary to schedule monthly meetings.
In November, Gregory Mousseau, the authority’s solicitor, said “(They) will do a little bit of research before they make a decision.”
Last week Mousseau said he was in the process of sending a letter to the borough.
Mousseau declined to comment as to whether the authority is still in operation.
DeWire said last week, “There is paperwork that states that the sewer authority is no longer an operating authority, rather they can only make recommendations for council.”
He added, “Council will need to decide whether or not to reinstate the sewer authority as an operating authority or to absorb those responsibilities themselves going forward.”
