Carbon County Commissioners

The Carbon County commissioners discussed or acted on the following items curing their weekly meeting on Thursday.

• Commissioner Michael Sofranko corrected the record that for the proposed budget millage increase, the increase represents $75 per every $100,000, not $1,000 as stated last week.

• Approved the final allocation from the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services for the 2022-2023 Medical Assistance Transportation Program in the amount of $1,141,449.

• Sofranko reported that the county plans to continue Love a Dog for Life Month annually, decreasing adoption fees to $50 for the month of February indefinitely.

He also noted that last month, the county received $19,000 in donations for the animal shelter. He thanked donors for all the support of the shelter and commended the shelter staff for their work.

• Retirement: Lisa A. Marks of Jim Thorpe, assistant human resources director, effective June 3.

• Hires: Charles E. Baker of Jim Thorpe, IT specialist, effective March 4; Ann M. Gruth of Weatherly, Lori A. Pelo of Summit Hill and Helen L. Matsinko of Lansford, cleaning people, all effective Feb. 26.
