Lehighton interviews candidates for borough engineer

Lehighton has met with several candidates for its borough engineer position.

At a special meeting on Thursday, borough council interviewed three people for the opening.

Those interviewed were Mike Muffley, Hanover Engineering Associates for Municipal Engineering Services; Eric Snyder, Keystone Consulting Engineers for Municipal Engineering Services; and Vanessa Nedrick, Remington & Vernick Engineers for Municipal Engineering Services.

Borough Manager Dane DeWire said Friday, “The interviews went very well. Council and I were impressed with each of them.

“We discussed current and upcoming projects, as well as budgetary constraints. They all brought something unique to the table, and the borough will be in good hands with whatever decision council makes.”

DeWire discussed the next step.

“Council is taking the weekend to think things over and will motion to hire their choice at Monday night’s general meeting,” he said.

Council meets at 6:30 p.m.

Nedrick has been serving as borough engineer. She replaced Bruce Steigerwalt, who retired at the end of 2022 after 43 years as borough engineer.

The borough sought a qualified, registered individual or civil engineering firm for engineering services including, but not limited to, the design and planning of sewer and storm drainage projects, review of submitted plans, surveys, construction management, and other applications for compliance with borough regulations and engineering standards.
