CCEEC events

Carbon County Environmental Education Center in Summit Hill has announced the following events.

CCEEC is located at 151 E. White Bear Drive, Summit Hill. The center building is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekends.

Canceled

Baby, It’s Cold Outside, which was slated for 10 a.m. on Saturday has been canceled due to the weather forecast. It will not be rescheduled.

Nature Club

The Nature Club meets monthly and is open to all students in grades K through 6. This month’s meeting will take place at 1 p.m. on Jan. 21. Kids should be dressed for the weather.

Each meeting begins in an official session. The afternoon concludes with hikes, games, or other nature-oriented activities.

Creepy Crawlers

Creepy Crawlers will be held at 10 a.m. on Jan. 22. The meeting is open to all 2, 3 and 4-year-olds. The Crawlers meet monthly, with each session focused on some aspect of the natural world.

Children participate in age-appropriate games, crafts, stories and other activities. Programs are free for members, and a $5 per-child donation for nonmembers.

Making the Dead Come Alive

Teachers, scout leaders, homeschool parents and other educators are invited to this online session, “Making the Dead Come Alive: Turning Your Classroom into a Natural History Museum” on Jan. 24.

This is an online course that will take place from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

Participants will learn how to collect and prepare natural history items for use in education.

The session is presented by CCEEC’s Susan Gallagher, and Carissa Longo of PA-DCNR. The pair team up to help teachers bring skulls, skins, bones, and other items into the classroom in a safe and legal way.

Yarn Tuesdays

Yarn Tuesdays will meet weekly from Feb. 6 through March 26. The meetings will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

The group is open to knitters, crocheters, and crafters of all kinds. Come to one session or all.

Bring your own project and attend for free. Or make a small donation and get all supplies needed to learn a new skill. Expert instruction and light refreshments.
