Tamaqua police charged Kyle Smith, 25, of Tamaqua, with simple assault and harassment following a 10:38 a.m. incident on Dec. 29.

Police said they were dispatched to a home on South Greenwood Street for a report of an assault and spoke to a female victim. She told police that Smith pushed her against a wall and put his hand around her chest and neck area to cause red marks and scratches. Two people witnessed the incident.

Police spoke to Smith who admitted that he pushed the victim by putting his hand around her chest and neck area. He said he did not leave any marks.

Smith was taken into custody and arraigned before Tamaqua Magisterial District Judge Stephen Bayer. He was released on his own recognizance.
