Penn Forest meeting 'illegal' Reorganization sessions weren't advertised

Last week's annual reorganization meeting, board of supervisor's meeting and auditor's reorganization meeting in Penn Forest Township were all illegal under the Pennsylvania Sunshine Act. The township failed to advertise the meetings.

"This was a case of simple human error," said Warren Reiner, chairman of the board of supervisors."Everything was in the computer ready to be sent to the Times News and with so much going on, she just forgot to push the button."The act calls for meetings to be advertised as follows:• An agency shall give notice of its first regular meeting at least three days in advance and shall give notice of the schedule of its remaining regular meetings• Special meetings and rescheduled meetings require 24 hours• Public notice is not required for an emergency meeting or conference• Must be published or circulated within the political subdivisionAll business conducted at the meetings held on Monday and Wednesday of last week is void and must be repeated. The township advertised the rescheduled meetings in Saturday's Times News. The annual reorganizational meeting will take place at 9 a.m. Thursday, with the regular monthly meeting to follow. The township's auditors will hold a reorganizational meeting at 1 p.m. Jan. 19.
