Nurses concerned about Ebola

After a nurse in a Dallas area hospital became the first known U.S. case of Ebola infection, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a directive to the nation's hospitals to "think Ebola."

National Nurses United, a union representing nurses in hospitals around the United States, says members "are worried about a lack of preparation for Ebola."The union surveyed 1,900 nurses and discovered that "76 percent said their hospital had not communicated any policy for the potential admission of patients infected by Ebola."Nurses are asking for upgrades in emergency preparations, including hands-on training and the increase of available personal protective equipment.NNU's executive director, Rose Ann DeMoro, said the union was calling for a national call-in event this Wednesday at 9 a.m. EDT.The call-in was scheduled before the Dallas nurse was diagnosed with the deadly disease. The call-in, according to DeMoro, was "based on steady reports from nurses at multiple hospitals who are alarmed at the inadequate preparation they see at their hospitals." NU isLocal hospitals, including Lehigh Valley Health Network, St. Luke's University Health Network and Blue Mountain Health Systems, all say they are following CDC guidelines.Kathy Kunkel
