The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is shutting down a dangerous Lower Towamensing intersection.
On Monday, workers will begin constructing a center median barrier at the intersection of Route 248 and Club Road. The barrier will permanently prohibit vehicles from making a left-hand turn from Route 248 onto Club Road, as well as from Club Road onto Route 248.In June, Lower Towamensing Township Board of Supervisors Chairman Brent Green said, "I think we were averaging three to four accidents a year."A traffic and engineering study found about 40 percent of crashes at this intersection are rear-ends related to left turning vehicles from the passing lane. The work, which continues through Oct. 17, will lead to lane restrictions on Route 248 east and west. Rain will cause delays.
