Schuylkill Township Supervisors questioned about recent actions
Schuylkill Township citizens continue to say that two supervisors Charles Hosler, chairman; and Christine Verdier don't keep supervisor Chuck Fayash in the loop of township business.
During a meeting Tuesday, some citizens questioned recent actions taken by Hosler and Verdier. In recent months, the citizens have often asserted that it's Fayash vs. the other two. Some of the most heated discussions during the meetings have centered around who has access to secretary Mary Bubel's office.Fayash said he was being denied access to the office; while Hosler had a key. In response, the board passed a motion that no supervisor would have a key. Then, about two weeks ago, Bubel became ill and was not able to return to work. Hosler was able to get Bubel's key from her husband, and he and Verdier tackled the backlog of mail that had accumulated in her absence. On Tuesday, citizens asked why the two had not called Fayash to let him know they'd be working in the office. Fayash happened to drive by the office at that time, and had talked with the two, but didn't stay. Verdier said that she and Hosler spent five hours figuring out how to handle the correspondence."We did it because it needed to be done," she said in response to the questioning.Later in the meeting, the supervisors approved a motion to have keys made and allow all three supervisors to have access to the office. The motion was on the agenda."The circumstances have changed," Verdier said, referring to Bubel's illness. "It's necessary that we all have access."During the meeting, Verdier and Hosler voted to hire Suzanne Apanavage of MaryD on a temporary basis to work as assistant secretary and treasurer. Fayash nominated Frank Fabrizio, but his motion died for lack of a second. Apanavage will be paid $13 per hour and work on an as-needed basis. In recent months, Bubel had been responding to a deluge of Right-to-Know requests, including eight she received the day before she fell ill. In her absence, the township needs a temporary Right-to-Know officer. Verdier nominated Fayash, and her motion was seconded by Hosler. All three voted in favor on the appointment. In other action the board approved hiring Snyder Web Design to develop a website for the township. Fayash had researched the matter and recommended Snyder. The company will be paid $300 a year. The supervisors also set Trick or Treat night in the township. It will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1. Residents are asked to make sure their sidewalks are clear that evening
