Elks Lodge honors community leader

The East Stroudsburg Elks Lodge 319 has selected attorney, businessman and longtime community leader Samuel W. Newman as recipient of the 2014 A. Mitchell Palmer Award. He received the award at a dinner co-sponsored by Elks 319 and the Monroe County Bar Association, at the East Stroudsburg Elks Lodge on Tuesday.

Over the past 50 years, Newman has given his time and energy to a long list of Monroe County community and public service organizations, including the Pocono Medical Center, the Salvation Army, the SPCA, the Kiwanis Club, Planned Parenthood, the VNA, and the Pocono Mountains Chamber of Commerce and Vacation Bureau. He was a founding member and Board Director of the Pennsylvania Ski and Winter Sports Museum and Hall of Fame. He is the president and a co-director of The Lester G. Abeloff Foundation.
