WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (AP) — A man facing a mandatory term of life in prison without parole is maintaining his innocence in the shooting death of a woman in a car at a northeastern Pennsylvania apartment complex.

Jurors in Luzerne County deliberated for less than two hours Thursday before convicting 22-year-old Kenneth Evans III of first-degree murder in the November 2013 slaying of Shantique Goodson at the Sherman Hills complex.Authorities alleged that Evans ran up and fired at the victim at close range as she sat in the passenger seat of a sport utility vehicle outside the complex.Defense attorney John Pike questioned the credibility of witnesses and the forensic evidence in the case.He said his client would appeal. Evans, who was visibly distraught after the verdict, will be sentenced Oct. 20.
