BELLEFONTE (AP) - A central Pennsylvania man will spend nine to 18 years in state prison for a drunken crash that killed one of his friends and critically injured two others.
WJAC-TV reports 30-year-old Matthew Shirk, of Bellefonte, was sentenced Monday by a Centre County judge. He was convicted earlier this year of charges including driving under the influence, homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence, and homicide by vehicle in the Dec. 21, 2011, crash.Police say Shirk's blood-alcohol content was about two-and-a-half times the state's legal limit for drivers when he crashed his pickup, killing 24-year-old passenger Kelly Rider.Investigators say Shirk was driving at least 60 mph in a 45 mph zone of Route 144 in Snow Shoe Township when the pickup rolled, ejecting Rider and two other passengers.
