Library's summer reading program begins

The Summer Reading program at Palmerton Area Library begins at 10:30 a.m., Friday. The theme is "Fizz Boom Read." The opening program is called "Fizz, Boom, Baam, Alakazaam Reading Magic Show" featuring Michael Reist, The Amazing Magi.

All the summer reading programs are free and no advance registration is necessary.On Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. through July 24 the library will host Preschool Circle Time for children ages 3-5, featuring stories, songs, dancing and more.On Fridays at 10:30 a.m. through July 25 the library will host the Summer Reading Club for children in grades K-6, featuring puppet shows, stories, crafts, experiments and more.The library is again sponsoring the "Book Chain" contest for readers of all ages, preschool through adult. Sign up at the desk and add a link to the chain for every book you read this summer (June 1- Sept. 1).At the end of the summer three winners will be chosen in five different categories. The library is partnering with radio station B104 who will be giving away a free iPad or Kindle to one lucky reader at the end of the summer.The Friends of the Library will have a meeting at 7 p.m. July 8. New members are welcome.The Knitting Club continues to meet all summer from 6-8 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month.The club is free and open to anyone interested in knitting and crocheting. All skill levels are welcome.Yoga classes are continuing at the library all summer at 9 a.m. every Saturday. Call the teacher at 570-436-1762 for more information.Check out the library's website at
