A homeless man has waived to court on assault, burglary and criminal trespass in two separate incidents.
According to the affidavit of probable cause by state police at Fern Ridge in the case against Matthew Berry:
On Nov. 1, police were dispatched to the 200 block of E. Brown Street (Lehigh Valley Pocono Medical Center) for a reported assault that occurred on Barrys Road, Chestnuthill Township.
Police talked to a woman, who said that over the past few days she was staying in an abandoned house on Barrys Road with her boyfriend, Berry, 33.
The woman said Berry had choked her and grabbed her by the hair and threw her against the wall.
Berry was taken into custody, and is incarcerated in the Monroe County Prison in lieu of $5,000 monetary bail.
Berry also faces charges for an incident that took place the following day.
State police were called at 10:35 a.m. Nov. 2 to a home in the 1400 block of Johns Road, Chestnuthill Township.
A 72-year-old woman from Slatington said that she and her husband had purchased the property as a hunting cabin quite some time ago. She came to the property and there were items in the residence that did not belong to the couple and she said it was obvious someone had trespassed.
Willhardt interviewed the woman in the first incident who the items belonged to her.
She said that Berry had told her that the residence belonged to him.
For this incident, Berry faces charges of burglary and criminal trespass, with bail set at $25,000 monetary.
