Schuylkill officials meet to discuss hazards plan

Schuylkill County municipal officials should mark Nov. 14 on their calendars because that is the day an important meeting will be held.

The county Planning and Zoning Department will hold a virtual hazard mitigation meeting that day from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Call-in instructions on how to join the meeting are on the county website under the calendar.

Susan A, Smith, the county’s planning director, told the county commissioners Wednesday that it is important for local municipal officials to participate because it can affect their municipality’s priority in receiving state and federal funding.

The hazard mitigation plan is the county’s commitment to reducing risk from hazards, and serves as a guide for officials who make decisions where to dedicate resources to address community concerns.

Municipal officials who participate in the session will learn about the plan, and how they can contribute to the planning process.
