Carbon Career and Technical Institute guidance counselor Eugene Colosimo has begun student recruitment efforts in the five districts that send students to CCTI.
He visited the Jim Thorpe, Lehighton, Palmerton, Panther Valley, and Weatherly school districts with a technical instructor and a student at each school to introduce CCTI to the students.
Michelle Allen, CCTI principal, told the Joint Operating Committee last week that ninth grade tours will be offered at the school in November.
“We strongly encourage each district to bring all ninth graders to tour the school,” Allen said. “We believe that the tours are definitely valuable, and that students who miss the tours will miss an opportunity by not attending this event.”
Allen also reported that the CCTI open house and art show held on Oct. 11 was a success.
“There was a very good turnout of prospective new students along with their families to tour the school and meet our teachers,” she said.
Christine Trovato, facilitator of special education for CCTI, thanked the Jim Thorpe Area School District, and especially Sandra Michalik, Jim Thorpe director of special education, for inviting CCTI special education staff for a training by the Carbon Lehigh IU21 on Behavior Management and Modifications on Oct. 9.
Trovato also reported on some upcoming training that she and her department will be attending. Special Programs (Power School IEP) E-Signature training, by Dr. Jerome Brown is tentatively scheduled for November.
“I will also be attending the annual Regional Homeless Conference on Oct. 25,” Trovato said. “In November I will be able to report to you on any updates regarding legislations or any awareness.”
CCTI students and faculty collected $400 during Breast Cancer Awareness activities and donated it to the American Cancer Society.
