Text option added for JT lot parking

Visitors to downtown Jim Thorpe now have another way to pay for parking if they park in a county-owned space.

On Thursday, Carbon County Commissioner Chris Lukasevich announced that the pay by text option is now fully operational in all county parking zones.

He said that over the last weekend, when it first went live, it was well received, with 631 people using the text option to pay for their parking.

“(It) expands our ability to swiftly move people away from the kiosks and into downtown Jim Thorpe,” he said.

The text option allows visitors to text a specific parking zone code to 727563 to begin the pay to park process. This option now adds to the Flowbird app, as well as the pay at kiosks that the county utilizes.

Lukasevich thanked Butts Ticketing, as well as the parking and maintenance departments for getting this option up and running.

He added that it did seem that the lines at the kiosks were shorter than previous weekends before this option and said it is just another way to help visitors.

A pay by text sign has been added to all parking kiosk signs in the Carbon County lot. This new option allows visitors to send a specific code via text to begin the payment process. CONTRIBUTED PHOTO
