Carbon County officials are hoping to provide some insight for municipalities on available grants and zoning planning.

Commissioner Rocky Ahner announced that an informational session on grants, funding and zoning would be held for municipal board members, borough managers and other elected officials at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 23.

The meeting will take place at 44 Susquehanna St., Jim Thorpe.

“Grants don’t come to you; you have to go get them,” Ahner said. “That’s why it’s important to providing the contacts that municipalities need to better their communities.”

Speakers will include Scott Vottero, assistant district executive of Pennsylvania Department of Transportation District 5; Rebecca Hayden, a project specialist for PENNVEST; Philip Ehrig, grants manager, investments and infrastructure for Gov. Josh Shapiro’s office; and Ann Hutchinson, natural lands senior director of municipal planning.

Ahner said that the meeting is a result of a discussion he had with the governor’s office during a recent County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania conference.
