Nesquehoning begins work on 2024 budget

With the loss of its borough secretary earlier this year, Nesquehoning officials are still sifting through the figures to create a 2024 operating budget.

During borough council’s last meeting, Councilwoman Fran Heaney, chair of the budget and finance committee, said that they are working with Lacey Gonzalez, which council hired on a contractor basis, to serve as the borough treasurer until a new borough secretary is hired.

Heaney said that Gonzalez has been looking through the previous budget and bills to determine what needs to be in next year’s plan.

In other budget matters, council is looking to see if it has funds in this budget for additional body cameras for police officers at a cost of $15,000. A motion to approve the purchase was tabled.

Heaney said that hopefully next month, council will have an answer from Gonzalez on what funds are available for the purchase in this year’s budget.
