Tamaqua man cited for violating dog leash law

A Tamaqua man was cited for violating the Pennsylvania leash law after his dog was found running loose at 8:51 p.m. Oct. 7, according to Tamaqua police.

Officers said the dog, owned by Robert E. Montilla Peralta, has gotten loose before.

According to police, a resident reported that he caught a German shepherd at the Willing Skate Park earlier in the day. The resident said photos of the dog running loose have been posted many times on social media.

At 10:35 p.m., Montilla Peralta called the Schuylkill County Communications Center, saying his name was Robert Reyes, and that his dog was missing. He was told that he would have to visit the police station and provide proper identification to claim the dog. Police said that when he arrived, he showed them a driver’s license with his real name.

Police informed him of the Pennsylvania leash law and said the dog has to be properly registered. He was also cited for not having his dog registered.
