2 charged in Mahoning burglary

Two people face burglary, theft, conspiracy and related charges after they were found inside a Mahoning Township home in late August.

Cortney Poremba, 34, of Summit Hill, and George Roberts IV, 34, of Columbia, South Carolina, were jailed on charges of burglary, theft by unlawful taking, criminal trespass and multiple conspiracy charges.

Both remain in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in Nesquehoning in lieu of $20,000 bail each.

According to court papers, the pair were found inside a Blakeslee Boulevard home that had been secured days earlier, and asked to leave by family members who discovered the break-in on Aug. 27. The pair complied.

Family then discovered a missing lawn tractor, court papers said.

Police located the pair in a rented Penske truck in Jim Thorpe the following day, and conducted a traffic stop. Roberts was placed in custody, while Poremba fled, court papers said.

The lawn tractor was not found inside the truck.
