Walnutport Borough Council
Walnutport Borough Council on a 6-0 vote took the following action on Thursday:
• Accepted the resignation of a part-time police officer.
• Adopted an amendment to the ordinance concerning parking on the 600-700 block of Williams Avenue to make it no parking from the intersection of Williams Avenue and New Street to Williams Avenue and Birch Street, east side, and from the intersection of Williams Avenue and Birch Street to Williams Avenue and South Lehigh Gap Street, west side.
• Adopted an ordinance for rental licenses, rental versus family member.
• Agreed to compensate C. Miller $25 per inspection for filling in temporarily for the borough’s code enforcement officer doing rental inspections.
• Authorized the borough secretary to send out letters reminding homeowners of ordinance violations before they would go to the code enforcement officer when needed.
• Agreed to advertise for a temporary or backup code enforcement officer when needed.
• Agreed to have borough grant coordinator Michael Wentz attend a municipal update and grant writing workshop from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 12 at the Allen Township Fire Department as part of a program sponsored by state Rep. Zachary Mako.
• Announced that the fall e-recycling and shredding event will be held Sept. 20.
• Announced that the Walnutport Canal Festival will be held Oct. 15.
• Announced that Trick-or-Treat will be held in the borough from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 25.
• Announced that the Adopt a Tree/Tree Lighting will be held at 2 p.m. Dec. 2, with the candy cane hunt beginning at 3 p.m. and the tree lighting at around 5 p.m.
