Lincoln Drive in Rush Township is closed until further notice due to the deteriorating condition of a bridge that spans over the Reading Blue Mountain and Northern Railroad.
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, a recent inspection of the structure showed significant deterioration at the connection between the main structural steel members.
The Lincoln Drive traffic is being detoured onto Route 309. Motorists should expect delays.
The bridge is a steel girder-floor beam structure built in 1924. It is 38 feet long and 25.2 feet wide. The average daily traffic on the bridge is 1,384 vehicles.
PennDOT has a project in design to replace the structure. The bid opening is currently scheduled for 2025.
