The Lehighton United Veterans Organization will hold a Sept. 11 memorial service at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Upper Park Amphitheater in Lehighton.
Lehighton UVO Commander Kevin “Spike” Long said the ceremony will be similar to the format the group does when it conducts its Memorial Day service each year.
“We’ll take time to reflect, remember; it’s another ones of these eventful days that was definitely etched (in our minds),” Long said. “There’s some of our younger generation that never experienced it, only heard about it.”
Which is why Long said it’s important that we “pause, reflect, remember.”
“At a time when people want to change history or forget history, it’s important that we don’t forget that fateful day of 9/11 2001, and the sacrifices that happened that day, and all the sacrifices that occurred from that date,” he said. “The Lehighton UVO just would like to put this service together so that we don’t forget, that we never forget; we hope people will come out and just pause and reflect.”
Long said the speaker will be U.S. Air Force Veteran Keith “Jake” Boyer.
