A basket raffle and bake sale to benefit the children of the late Mark T. Boyle will be held Sept. 23 from the West Penn Fire Company, 21 Municipal Road.
“Mark would do anything for anybody,” said Catrina Mehallic, who’s helping with the event.
She, along with members of the South Ward Playground Association in Tamaqua, Dance Factory of Tamaqua, and the Schlorf and Warner families are collecting items for the basket raffle.
So far, she said, the community has been generous with its support. Any donations of baskets, food, money or other prizes are welcome.
“We wanted to help Liz out with the girls financially a little bit,” Mehallic said, referring to Boyle’s widow and daughters.
Boyle, 35, died on Aug. 2 from injuries he sustained when a man intentionally ran him over at his business, Mark T. Boyle Welding LLC in West Penn Township, according to police.
Mehallic said Boyle helped so many different organizations.
“Mark brought three tri-axles of mulch (to the South Ward Playground),” Mehallic said. “He donated his company vehicles and his employees, and they went and picked up the mulch. They then dropped it off at the playground at no charge.”
She also said he also helped with the Tamaqua Little League Field and other organizations.
“He has done so much for the community. I just feel like it’s out time to help them,” Mehallic said.
Doors to the raffle will open 8 a.m. and the drawing will be held at 5 p.m.
The fire company is donating the use of its building for the fundraiser, and will have food available for purchase.
