Polk development seeks OK for septic planning module
In 2010 Steven and Colleen Parisi of Kunkletown filed preliminary plans for a development to be located off Haney Road in Polk Township. The preliminary plans were approved, but the economic conditions stalled the project.
The development fell under the Permit Extension Act of 2012, when the governor extended certain building and zoning permits through July 2016. The act was brought about because of the number of permits that had been paid for but were not being used due to the stall in the new housing market. Under the act the developers are not required to renew their permits or pay to extend the life of the permit. On Monday evening, Parisi addressed the supervisors, explaining that it was his intention to proceed with Phase I of the project. Parisi has perc tested at least 45 of the 94 lots on the original plan and is in the process of probing and perc testing the rest of the land. The township was presented the septic planning module for review earlier this month. Once the township sewage enforcement officer has had a chance to review the document, a recommendation will be made to the supervisors regarding its approval.Once the supervisors have approved the module it will be sent to DEP for its approval. The township is also awaiting a revised preliminary plan which will show which lots make up Phase I and how many homes will be built under the revised plan. The township has requested that the plan include improvements to Haney Road at the bend closest to Wood Lane which would include the addition of a stop sign in that area. Also on Monday's agenda was the township's response to a number of requests at last month's meeting to address the speeding on Dotter's Corner Road. The township has sent letters to the developments, school and state police regarding its concerns. A traffic study will be conducted along the road which will not only count the traffic but will record speeds."The residents have a point," said Chairman Brian Ahner. "I took at ride along the road to check out the speed limit signs and I was getting passed."Also discussed was the bridge replacement scheduled for Route 209 beginning next April. The bridge, which is just east of the Route 534 intersection will be under construction from April 17 until Dec. 12, 2016. The road will be reduced to one lane during the construction.
