A Weatherly police officer escaped injury during a traffic stop on Nov. 23, but the same can't be said for his patrol vehicle.

According to a borough police Facebook post, an officer observed a commercial vehicle with several vehicle code violations, including lack of registration and an expired safety inspection.While conducting the traffic stop in the area of First and Carbon streets, police identified the driver as Donald Braun Jr. of Weatherly.During the stop the vehicle lost its brakes and rolled backward down First Street, crashing into the police cruiser.The investigating officer was seated inside the cruiser, attempting to place the commercial vehicle out of service for the safety and inspection violations, when the crash occurred.The State Police Motor Carrier enforcement unit is handling the investigation.
