Have Walker Township officials been illegally spending money owed to the New England Fire Company?
Art Valentine, trustee of New England Fire Company, believes so, and accused the township's board of supervisors on Monday of doing just that."Somebody's wrong, and I'm going to find out who," Valentine said. That wasn't the only concern brought forth by Valentine."We've never gotten any LST (Local Service Tax) money," he said. "We should be getting it."Supervisors said that based on the township's attorney's advice, they believe they have been spending the money appropriately.Still, Valentine wasn't convinced."Well, if I'm wrong, I'm wrong," he said. "But, if I'm not ..."Valentine then went back to the matter of the LST money, which he said the fire company hasn't received in eight years."There's money left over every year; where's it at? What are you spending it on; where's it at?Shortly afterward, supervisors unanimously passed a pair of motions to pay expenses related to the fire company. The first motion was to pay expenses to the fire company in the amount of $5,284 for the year 2013.The other was to pay one-third of expenses related to electric, oil and insurance to the fire company in the amount of $5,252.25 for the year 2014.
