Weissport Council discussed the pending McCall bridge project and the lack of confirmation that residents will have a way to leave town after the new traffic flow plan goes into effect during the rehabilation of the bridge next year.

"We're inviting a Pennsyvania Department of Transportation engineer and our engineer to our next meeting," noted Dana Brubaker, borough secretary.Council member have requested that PennDOT install a traffic light somewhere on Bridge Street in Weissport that will allow residents access to Bridge Street.So far, that request has not been formally approved and council members, who all live in the borough, are concerned for themselves and other residents who will face two lanes of flowing traffic through the town during the construction phase.A blueprint of the traffic flow was presented at the meeting and according to the document, there will only be traffic lights at the end of the bridge by Dunkin Donuts and none within the borough.The next meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, March 4.Weissport Council members were looking over a levee inspection report which says the levee is intact and in good condition, but one council member questioned a section that refers to two pipes that were never mentioned in a past report."The report notes that the pipes cannot be inspected," said Tim Rehrig. "I question the inspection report because they never mentioned them before. I'd like to see documentation."The levee is required to be inspected every five years.Council also discussed a UGI gas line easement that would impact a section of the tennis courts.Brubaker said she asked UGI to consider making a donation to the recreation fund in exchange for using the parcel when it plans to install a new gas line underneath the Lehigh River. UGI is proposing to dig up a 30-foot section of the tennis courts for a permanent easement.Rehrig noted that possibly UGI could resurface the tennis courts.Council presently had prepared an application for a grant that would include repaving the tennis courts, which would mean that any grant funds for that part of the project could be used somewhere else.Brubaker asked members of Weissport Recreation Committee to offer suggestions to be included in an revised grant application.Weissport is hoping to receive funds to upgrade the tennis courts and playground through the Commuity Block Grant program.A Weissport resident asked council's help in forcing his neighbor to replace a blue tarp with a real roof.Terry Keesen appeared before council to say that his neighbor's roof was damaged during Hurricane Sandy and that he has not made permanent repairs and now his side of the two family home is getting water damage.Council contacted the code enforcement officer to have him investigate the issue.
