Keystone Progress director to address Palmerton Democrats

The Palmerton Area Democratic Club will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the home of Marian and Kris Hoffner, 456 Edgemont Ave., Palmerton.

A pot luck dinner will be followed at 7 p.m. by the club's monthly meeting, featuring Mike Morrill, Executive Director of Keystone Progress, speaking on "Issues to Anticipate in the 2016 Elections."A "State of the Union Watch Party" starting at 8:30 p.m. will fill out the evening.Based in Harrisburg, Keystone Progress, which Morrill spearheaded, is Pennsylvania's largest online progressive action network a proud affiliate of the U.S. Action and Progress Now networks.Involved in organizing since childhood, Morrill's career has included working for unions, civic engagement organizations and political campaigns.He has served as executive director of Pennsylvanians United for Quality Care, Pennsylvania's Campaign for Choice, Pennsylvania Citizen Action and Christian Churches of the Tri-County Area.Morrill will share his insights about major political issues, including his impressions of the candidates and challenges of the 2016 presidential and Pennsylvania Senate election.He will also give an overview of the upcoming PA Progressive Summit 2016, which will be held in Harrisburg Feb. 19-21.PADC continues to collect canned goods at each meeting to share with the Food Bank, run by the Community Action Council of Palmerton Area Churches.The area covered by the club includes Palmerton, Bowmanstown, Towamensing Township and Lower Towamensing Township.Meetings are held at 7 p.m. monthly, on the second Tuesday of the month, from September to May, with location to be announced.Annual dues are $1 a year, and are due Jan. 1.
