Blue Mountain hosts ski-a-thon to benefit school for disabilities
Blue Mountain Resort in Palmerton will host the sixth annual Teddy Bedrossian Ski-A-Thon on Sunday morning.
The event is held to raise money for Elwyns Davidson School, a non-profit school for students 3 to 21 years old with physical, intellectual and developmental disabilities in Allentown.The event is named after the son of Dr. Edward Bedrossian Jr., chief of ophthalmology surgery at Delaware County Memorial Hospital.His son, Teddy, was born with an unbalanced chromosome translocation. A medically fragile, chronically ill boy, Teddy had severe disabilities, and was non-verbal.When he was born, doctors said he would only live to be three months old, Teddy beat the odds and thrived for 18 years while attending Elwyn's. Bedrossian credits the care he received there for helping him to live so long."Unable to talk or hear, he brought an indescribable richness to everyone he met through his acts of kindness and his contagious smile," a press release stated. "Teddy passed away in 2007 of kidney failure but he touched the lives of so many at Elwyn.""He loved going there," Bedrossian said. "The fundraiser is for such a great cause." Elwyn needs to build a new school at the cost of $15 million.Skiers, snowboarders, snow tubers and even beginning skiers can participate. With registration comes a full-day ski pass, VIP lift tickets, continental breakfast, luncheon, beginner ski lessons, T-shirt, award ceremony and potential prizes, such as lift tickets, gift cards and ski clothing.The registration fee is $150 per person or teams of four for $500, and for students, $125 each or $400 for a team of four.
