PHILADELPHIA (AP) - School officials in Philadelphia say a 15-year-old boy has died of bacterial meningitis.
The school district says the George Washington Carver High School of Engineering and Science freshman died Tuesday at a hospital.
District spokesman Fernando Gallard says counseling and support will be available to students and there will be a meeting for parents on Wednesday.
Bacterial meningitis is typically more severe than viral meningitis. Both cause inflammation of the membranes around the brain and spinal cord.
