An Orwigsburg construction company has won the job of repairing a Norwegian Township bridge.
Schuylkill County commissioners on Wednesday hired Heim Construction to do the work for $714,379.Heim was the lowest of four bidders seeking the job. The other were Bi-State Construction, $778,487; Barletta Materials & Construction, $823,057; and Kinsley Construction, $983,935.The bridge is on Maple Avenue and spans the west branch of the Schuylkill River.The project is funded by liquid fuels tax revenues earmarked for road and bridge improvements.In other matters, commissioners authorized 911 director Scott Krater to attend the national Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials conference at the Orange County convention center in Orlando, Florida, from Aug. 14-17.The conference is paid for through Act 12 (the state's 911 emergency communications law).Also on Wednesday, commissioners agreed to a lease contract with Pitney Bowes to upgrade the mail machine.The current lease expires on April 30, and the upgrade will result in lower monthly costs.The next meeting will be a work session at 10
a.m.April 6 in the commissioners' Hofmann room.
