A living memorial dedicated to fallen veterans will pedal through Jim Thorpe on Saturday afternoon on its way to the Bethlehem Steel Stacks finish line.

Jim Thorpe Adventures LLC will host its second annual 75-mile Remembrance Ride this weekend in honor of the country's fallen heroes and their families.Over the weekend riders will travel along the Delaware and Lehigh Heritage Trail from Mountaintop to Bethlehem to raise funds for the Travis Manion Foundation based in Doylestown."My son and I ride the Tour de Shore every year. It gave us the idea to start a similar event along the Delaware and Lehigh Heritage Trail to honor our fallen heroes," said Charles Hellings of Jim Thorpe Adventures."Last year we raised $1,000 for them and generated over $3,000 of economic activity in support of the ride. This year we are hoping to raise $2,500," he said."We also plan to record key aspects of our ride by drone. It should be really exciting."The tour will begin Saturday with the first 35 miles starting at Mountaintop to Jim Thorpe where participants will take an overnight break before hitting the blacktop for the remaining 40 miles to the Stacks on Sunday.The Travis Manion Foundation was created after the death of Lt. Travis Manion who died in Iraq in April 2007.The late Marine's mother, Janet Manion, started the organization to assist the nation's veterans and families of those who never returned from the field."TMF engages with veterans and families of the fallen in all stages of their personal journeys and offers them unique opportunities to empower them to achieve their goals. TMF believes that the best way to honor the fallen is by challenging the living," Manion said.The 33 bike seat capacity was reached by mid-May, however Jim Thorpe Adventures is still working to reach its $2,500 donation goal.
