The Independent Order of Americans property in Bowmanstown was sold at an auction Saturday to Stuart Bartholomew of Lincoln Avenue, Bowmanstown, at his bid price of $2,200.

Carbon Realtors said the purchase was a bargain for Bartholomew as the property located at 174-176 Ore St., Bowmanstown, is a three-story double dwelling of brick construction. It has three rooms on the first and second floors on each side. The third floor, with the same amount of space, was used as a meeting hall. The property was put up for sale after the 33 members of the organization voted to dissolve the fraternity. It was built in 1908 and had been used by the IOA ever since. At peak activity in the 1920s, the organization had more than 450 members.
