On the heels of the successful 150th celebration, Lehighton Borough will resurrect its Lehighton Area Heritage Alliance/Lehighton Historical Society. Todd Weaver, a lifelong resident of the borough, spoke before the council during Monday night's meeting to propose the idea to the board.

"It's something I thought about years ago. We were attempting to do it, and with the 150th there has been a lot of interest. It started me thinking, this is perfect time for me to start it up again," he said.Weaver said he recently put a post on the subject on social media and has had a positive response."People would really be interested. I've lived here all my life, and until the session with Mr. (Lamont) Ebbert during the 150th I didn't know about the town. I realized that this town has a lot more history than some of the surrounding areas," Weaver said.Borough manager Nicole Beckett told council she had been in contact with Weaver about his idea for the society in the borough."Todd came in and talked to me a number of times. His request is to pick up where Mr. Hopus left off," Beckett said.When the idea first surfaced years ago, space was made for the society in the Pfc. Clyde R. Houser Jr. Building. Weaver will head the society until it's up and running."The community thanks you, and so does the borough," said board Vice President Scott Rehrig.
