AARP class
On Dec. 3 and Dec. 10, a trained AARP Driver Safety Class volunteer will present the eight-hour defensive driver course at the Chestnuthill Park Building in Brodheadsville. It is designed for qualified drivers 50 and older.There are no tests and membership in AARP is not required. A registration fee is charged. rolandvonderheide@verizon.net.Project resultsOperation Touch of Home has just made 100 blankets for veterans and donated them, along with hats and gloves.Hats and gloves were also made for the men at Paul's House in Jonas.Holiday cardsGFWC Western Pocono Women's Club, along with local Girl Scout troops, hand crafted more than 1,100 Christmas cards. These cards show support from the home front, wish the troops merry Christmas and are signed by both WPWC and the Girl Scouts. At Chestnuthill Township Day in September, members of the community had an opportunity to write personal messages in over 200 cards. All the cards will be distributed to through the Red Cross, Tobyhanna Army Depot, the VA in Wilkes-Barre as well as to troops in other areas of the country and abroad.New arrivalsThe following books are just about ready to be put on the shelves at the library: "Curious George Discovers the Seasons,"in adult biography, "Hungry Heart" by Jennifer Weiner; andJames Patterson, tries his hand at nonfiction with "Filthy Rich," the true story of billionaire Jeffrey Epstein, and the scandal that undid him.Blanket driveOur Lady Queen of Peace Church, Gilbert, is holding a blanket drive.
