A 21-year-old man from New Jersey was committed to the Carbon County Correctional Facility in Nesquehoning on numerous charges involving drugs after he was stopped on Thanksgiving eve during a sobriety checkpoint program conducted by state police at the Lehighton barracks.

Corey Hamilton of Maple Shade is currently out on $25,000 bail.The checkpoint operation took place on Maury Road in Penn Forest Township, where Hamilton was stopped at 5:45 p.m. Nov. 23.Police said they detected a strong odor of marijuana from inside the vehicle and on Hamilton. After he consented to a search of the vehicle, police found approximately $10,000, packaged THC oil, marijuana and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.Police said Hamilton showed signs of impairment and was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs. He was transported to Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital in Lehighton, where he underwenttesting.In addition to the DUI charge, Hamilton is charged with a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver it, possession of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.
