Whether they are modeling molecules, learning to code, or building and racing solar-powered cars, tomorrow's engineers and mathematicians need only a spark to get their imaginations - and their careers - headed in the right direction.

PPL Corp., in cooperation with PBS stations WLVT, WVIA and WITF, is providing that spark to students in 15 eastern and central Pennsylvania schools. A team of PPL employees and PBS education specialists chose the winning science, technology, engineering and math projects. The teachers with the winning projects will receive $1,000 each as recipients of 2016 Empowering Educators grants from PPL. Recipients will be recognized at award ceremonies at PBS partner stations.Katie Leach of Weatherly Area High School is receiving a grant for "3D Printing in the 21st Century," which will use a 3D printer to enhance the curriculum study in drafting, history, geography and chemistry.Since the Empowering Educators grants began in 2003, PPL has awarded more than $180,000 for projects in 118 schools.
