Crews rescue hikers from trail in E. Penn

Five hikers, including a child, were rescued after they were lost for several hours in a wooded area of East Penn Township.

The hikers were lost along a portion of the Appalachian Trail before they were rescued by members of the township's fire department, according to Robert Kleintop Jr., assistant fire chief."At approximately 5 p.m. last evening, we had five people that had went the wrong way on the Appalachian Trail, got disoriented, and got lost," Kleintop said. "We were out for about three hours."Kleintop said the hikers were found about two miles from the Bake Oven Knob parking lot.He said the hikers, who were not locals, were getting cold, but were able to warm themselves up.
