Nesquehoning councilman resigns

A longtime Nesquehoning councilman has resigned his post.

On Wednesday, during council’s special meeting, the board regretfully approved Donato DeMarco’s letter of resignation, effective immediately.Council listed scheduling conflicts as the reason for DeMarco’s resignation.DeMarco has served on a number of borough committees, including most recently, chairing the streets and public safety committees and sitting on the sanitation committee.He served on council for several terms and previously held the position of council president in 2004 and 2005, as well as 2008 and 2009.Nesquehoning Borough Council now has a vacancy on the board for the remainder of the year.Letters requesting to fill the vacancy can be submitted to the borough office at 114 W. Catawissa St., until 4 p.m. on Feb. 22.Council will then act on the matter at its meeting at 7 p.m. that evening.Council President David Hawk said that whoever fills the vacancy will have to run to fill the remaining two years in the upcoming elections.
