Sargento cheese recall

Giant Good Stores and Martin’s Food Markets have announced the removal of certain Sargento shredded cheeses due to potential contamination.

Sargento’s Shredded Nacho & Taco Cheese, Shredded Taco Cheese, and Finely Shredded Cheddar Jack Cheeses in 8 oz. packages were pulled from shelves due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination.Neither store has received any reports illness to date. A release from Giant and Martin’s said that while Listeria is a common organism common organism found in nature, healthy people rarely contact listeriosis, an uncommon but potentially fatal disease, from consuming Listeria.Cases of listeriosis can cause high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea, miscarriages, stillbirths, as well as serious and sometimes fatal infections in those with weakened immune systems, such as infants, the elderly and persons with HIV infection or undergoing chemotherapy.Customers who have purchased these products should discard any unused portions and bring their purchase receipt to Giant/Martin’s for a full refund.Consumers looking for additional information on the recall may call Sargento at 1-800-243-3737.
