Dual investigation yields significant drug seizure in Blakeslee

The execution of a search warrant by the Scranton DEA Task Force and the Pocono Mountain Regional Police resulted in the seizure of 46 kilograms of cocaine in Blakeslee last month.

In a summary statement, the police department said that the warrant covered a warehouse and tractor trailer located at 111 Harry James Lane. The cocaine, worth $3.5 million on the street, was found in the trailer's frame on Feb. 8.

Manuel Escarcega Jr., 29, of Purcell, OK, was taken into custody at the scene by the DEA and charged with conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance and possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance. After being arraigned in federal court, Escarcega is still incarcerated.

The investigation was part of a continued partnership between the DEA and the regional police to identify and take down drug trafficking organizations that are looking to operate in the Pocono Mountain region.
