Tamaqua Area School District continues to await repairs to its softball field one month after it was damaged when poles fell on it.

Superintendent Ray Kinder told the school board during its committee meeting Tuesday that the district has been dealing with its insurance company.Kinder said the district is awaiting the arrival of three poles. Upon receipt of those, he said the district will work with an installer who will dig the holes and sink them into the ground.Netting will then be installed between the poles, he said. “We will not play baseball and softball games at that facility without the protective netting in place,” Kinder said. “Schools have worked on scheduling baseball and softball separately for that reason.”Currently, Kinder said both the softball and baseball teams are scheduled to play their first game March 28 at Hamburg.However, Kinder said the weather is the main issue with getting games played at this point.“It is not related to the pole/netting issue,” he said. “It is a weather-related issue that is affecting all schools.”Last month, Kinder told the board that the poles fell on the district’s softball field, backstop and dugouts.
