Mahoning man throws phone, hits baby

A Mahoning Township man allegedly injured a woman and an infant during a domestic dispute Saturday afternoon, according to police.

David William Ackley, 27, was charged in connection with an incident at a home in the 2200 block of Mahoning Drive West.A woman told Mahoning Township Police that Ackley threw a phone, which struck her 5-month-old infant in the face.The child was in its crib at the time, she told police.The woman reportedly told police that Ackley became angry because she did not know where his cellphone was, and threw objects around the room.When the woman attempted to tend to the child, Ackley allegedly pushed her and struck her with a closed fist.Police said that when they arrived at the home, Ackley was trying to keep the baby from the mother.They observed him give the child to the woman and run behind the home.He was caught and placed into custody.Ackley has been charged with two counts of simple assault, both misdemeanors, and endangering the welfare of a child.He was incarcerated at Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $5,000 bail.
