State police at Frackville are investigating an attempted theft by deception incident that was reported to them by a Schuylkill County resident.

Barbara Jean Kemery, of New Ringgold, reported receiving a check in the mail with instructions to cash it, keep $300, and send the remaining balance to an address in Philiippines.Troopers said citizens are reminded to be wary of online scams.
