The AARP Driver Safety Program, formerly "55 Alive," salutes our area veterans during the month of November. Veterans and their spouses attending the course will receive a free course completion certificate. Veterans or the spouse of a veterans will be asked simply to fill out a form stating their status.

Non veterans attending will be required to pay a $14 non refundable fee ($12 for AARP members) per person for the class. Checks are made payable to AARP. Class size is limited, so advance registrations are advised to assure placement in class. The defensive driving course is designed for qualified drivers 5- and older. There are no tests and membership is AARP is not necessary. All automobile insurance companies doing business in Pennsylvania, are required by state law, to give a minimum of 5 percent to all qualified policy holders over age 55 who take the course. Be sure to check first with your insurance agent or company to make sure you qualify to receive a discount.The eight-hour class is given in a two-day period in two four hour sessions. The one day four hour refresher course is only open to those who provide evidence of previously completing a course within the last 36 months. (No first time students.) Those completing the course will be issued a certificate which is valid for three years.
